Cannabis News: Celebrity Chef To Make Edibles For Illinois

Cannabis News:

Illinois is the most recent state to begin selling medical marijuana. Also in Illinois, chef Mindy Segal is making sure edibles are as delicious as possible.  The prominent Chicago celebrity chef,  also owns HotChocolate in Bucktown.  She announced today that she plans to create a line of marijuana edibles for the MMJ patients in her state.  This will make Segal the first James Beard Award-winning celebrity chef to cook for the cannabis industry.

This new line of edibles will include chocolate brittle bars, granola bites, and a cookie batter mix. Furthermore, the edibles will be made exclusively for Cresco Labs, which has plans to operate three cultivation centers in Illinois.  Also, for those of you who think you’re going to have to hold out for a taste of Segal’s sweet treats, don’t.  We are happy to report that her line will be available as early as February.

Although cooking with canna-butter is a relatively new adventure for Segal (she has ‘dabbled’ in it previously on a personal level).  Segal is hoping that success in Illinois will lead her to a national product line.  Segal’s goal is to help people who have lost their appetite due to chemotherapy in particular with her baked goods.

Segal said, “I have a lot to learn and a lot to give.”  She continued, “I’m hoping I can be a leader in the industry.”

The Illinois MMJ program officially opened last month, and they have currently approved 3,600 medical marijuana patients.
