I’m sure you’ve all heard the rumors that pot smokers tend to have healthier figures than their sober counterparts. Guess what? It’s true!
Cannabis News: Research on Marijuana
A study published in the American Journal of Medicine found that, on average, marijuana fanatics have a 7% lower BMI and a 4% smaller waistline. No wonder Stoned Girls are so hot!
Contributing to their beautiful figures is their better carbohydrate metabolism. To be specific, pot smokers typically have lower fasting insulin levels. They are less resistant to the insulin produced by their own bodies to maintain normal blood-sugar levels. Therefore, pot smokers have less unused sugar in their cells, and their bodies tend to handle insulin more properly. This helps decreasing their likelihood of Type II diabetes, and of course, weight gain.
While this study was run a couple years back, researchers still have no idea how to explain these correlations, but there is one theory that all potheads alike can speculate to be true… Cannabidiol (one of the many active “ingredients” found in marijuana) may be responsible for such sexy findings.
This ingredient fucks with our cannabinoid brain receptors, which in turn, ramps up our metabolism, causing intense munchies. However, after being a pothead for so long, many of you may have noticed a decrease in cravings after smoking. That’s because repeated use of marijuana can desensitize cannabinoid receptors. In other words, we still experience an increase in appetite, but we are no longer aware of it, thus decreasing our likelihood of eating our way to obesity!
While we all agree, smoking a lot of pot is rewarding (on so many levels). It should also be noted that maintaining an active lifestyle is also important… and worth it. Let me explain, the storage of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in fat can give potheads an extra “boost” while exercising, up to 28 days after smoking. As the body burns fat, small amounts of THC are released back into the bloodstream, allowing potheads to achieve a buzz. So, maybe next time you run out of weed, you should go on a run.
