***Update:  We’ve finally gotten an update since posting this breaking news last year.  Super Troopers 2 director and Broken Lizard member Jay Chandrasekhar tweeted the much anticipated poster for the upcoming movie during the Cannes Film Festival.  The crew has been filming in Boston, and while there is no release date yet, it seems we’re getting closer to finally having a Super Troopers 2 movie!

This comes after Broken Lizard hosted a massive crowd funding push on Indie Go Go successfully last year.

The ‘stache is back!

That’s right, 14 years later, the guys of Broken Lizard are rumored to have finally started making the film.

Steve Lemme, who played Mac in the original movie, told Us Weekly, “The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together.”

The idea for a second “Super Troopers” has been tossed around since 2006, with the funding of the project being the major holdup.  It has been said that the Broken Lizard team was going to use the online fundraising website Kickstarter to help fund the project, although Stoned Girls has been unable to find the page.

Jay Chandraskhar, who played Thorny, said of the new movie, “We pick up the story essentially right where we left off. Maybe about three months later. We are all working undercover for the lumber industry. What has happened is that there are all of these eco-terrorists that are trying to blow up the lumber mills. And we are there working as security.”

Paul Soter added, “The big picture is that we are on the Canadian Border. And in reality, what has happened is that the government has found places where the markers were off, or wrong. And there are these areas of land that were thought to be Canada, but are actually part of the US. We are enlisted to patrol this area that was always thought to be Canadian soil. But no, it is actually the United States. We are enlisted because they have to send someone there to help make it part of the US territory now. We get recruited to be the highway patrolmen there. And we are surrounded by all of these Canadian people that aren’t happy about this. We essentially have to impose US law on a bunch of Canadians that aren’t at all happy about it.”

Stoned Girls does not have any exact release dates yet, but we will continue to keep you updated with the progress of the film.  In the meantime, enjoy these OG “Super Troopers” memories:
