And we hope he makes a movie about it.

Woody was one of over 60 applicants vying for a chance to open one of Hawaii’s first medical marijuana dispensaries.  The Hawaii Department of Health posted the list of names last Friday. Harrelson’s company, Simple Organic Living, was among the contestants.  The laws passed in 2015 ensure that Hawaii will grant eight licences for marijuana businesses across the islands, which allow for two production centers and two retail dispensaries per license.

In order to secure one of these eight licenses, the applicant must have at least one million dollars in cash, and $100,000 for each dispensary location.  All applicants must also have established Hawaiian citizenship for at least five years.

Harrelson is a long time marijuana advocate, and even was arrested in Kentucky once for challenging their state law on the difference between hemp and marijuana.  Well, in this case he fought the law and HE won, as he was acquitted of all charges.

Hawaii was actually the first state to legalize mmj through legislation 16 years ago, and lawmakers have recently introduced bills that would legalize recreational weed as well, although it is unlikely that they will pass this year.  These new mmj dispensaries, however, should be open by July.
