Gallup has released the info from their latest poll, and as it turns out a shit ton of us are smoking weed. Green Rush Daily crunched the numbers, and it comes out to thirty three million of us to be exact.
Yes, you read that right. According to the most recent Gallup poll 33 million Americans currently smoke marijuana. Here’s a breakdown of the poll:
Forty three percent of adults in the United States say that they have tried marijuana, and 13% say that they regularly smoke weed. Adults under the age of 30 comprise the biggest part of that 13%, as 19% of them say they regularly use cannabis. Also, it is important to note that the percentage of adults that say they consume weed has almost doubled in the past three years alone. We wonder if that is due to easier access or marijuana losing its stigma, both due to legalization. To give context, in 1969, only 4% of Americans admitted to trying marijuana.
More men than women admit to having used marijuana, at 48% men to 34% women. The 30-49 year old age bracket boasts the highest percentage of people admitting to trying marijuana at some point in their lives, at 50%, and we can’t help but feel there were a few liars in 1969 based on this evidence. Income does not seem to have a major effect on marijuana consumption, as the percentages remained pretty similar. The same goes with education level. And, finally, it seems people out west smoke the most weed.
Also, to no one’s surprise, Gallup found that the majority of Americans support the legalization of marijuana. This information is useful in determining how November’s big vote for 9 lucky states will go. We will continue to keep you updated on the elections and everything else cannabis culture.
