Four U.S. states—Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington—have fully operational recreational pot markets, meaning that anyone over the age of 21 can score some legal green. For most of us, though, buying weed does not happen at a cash register, which makes the idea of cannabis tourism so appealing—legal dispensaries with all the choices you can imagine, no shady deals, no police paranoia.

For years, the only way to turn that dream into a reality was by taking a trip overseas to Amsterdam, but in 2012, Colorado changed the game with the enactment of Amendment 64, making it easier than ever for an American on a budget to have his or her own 420 fantasy vacation. When Alaska, Oregon and Washington joined the mix, our travel options grew even wider.
