Pusha T Supports the Legalization of Marijuana
With the elections right around the corner people seem to be more enlightened than ever about the topics that matter to them. Pusha T is one of those people and he continues to pursue his political advocacy with a new public service announcement. XXL Magazine recently reported that Pusha T is asking California voters to get out and approve Proposition 64 with hopes that once it has passed in a state the size of California that other states will follow suit.
“If California’s Prop 64 passes, no one will ever be incarcerated for marijuana again,” Pusha T said in his PSA. “Marijuana arrests are the engine that’s driving the war on drugs. It’s one of the number one reasons people trying to reenter their communities are sent back to prison. I’m not a California voter, but I know when good legislation passes in the biggest state, other states follow. And that’s an important step in ending mass incarceration around the country. What’s most important to me is keeping people who are coming home, home. If ending prohibition on marijuana reduces recidivism, then let’s do it.”
When Pusha T was on the The Late Show recently, he told Stephen Colbert about his concerns with the criminal justice system and how the offenders who can’t vote are the ones suffering the most. The criminal justice system is very cyclical because once you are a part of the system you are almost destined to return to it in some form. Whether repeat offenders return to prison because of another infraction or they end up needing a treatment program to help adapt themselves to society, they will certainly return back to the system.
The elections are next week and we believe it is our civic duty to encourage you all to become more educated about the politicians and the causes they support. If you want to see change, you have to be willing to become part of the movement. There’s no sitting on the sidelines.
